Live Review : Paris (France), March 10th, 2008
Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy - 15 000 ppl
I hadn't planned to go to that one... But the show from the day before was so good, I changed my mind.
We queued quite late though, around 4pm, and we got in the middle of the second pit. Uh, yeah, let me explain : the crowd is so pushy and insane that they added bareers to split the pit into 3 different sections, separated by passages for evacuations. I stayed near the sound booth at the middle of the pit, perched on the plastic case covering the wires. It gave me an extra inch in height. I definitely needed that to see above the see of arms once the band arrived on stage. The show wasn't completely sold out, this time. That date had been added right after the previous show had sold out within an hour... Which cut in the income of scalpers, BTW. But it looks, also, like people who bought tickets for the second show were less rabid fans who had missed out on the March 9th show.
In any case, the atmosphere wasn't as electric or warm as the day before. So the show was a little below that previous one.
Still, if you manage to see, halfway through the pit is a better place to be than in the seating area, in such a big venue. Something worth remembering.
Especially for the moments of the show where Bill was on that circular platform, like for Spring Nicht (but please, enough with the "wind machine" effect already...).
I'm writing this review way late after the show itself, so I don't remember many specifics... if there were any.
No fan action that I recall, either. Also I noticed less things anyway because after watching, listening and filming for most of the Sunday show, I had decided to spend more time participating at that one. So I sang along a lot.
I noticed more how much Georg was adding backup vocals on quite a few songs, but I can't recall which ones, oops.
The most noticeable event is that Gustav played a solo after all his fellow band members had left the stage. Not just inducing the crowd to do the hola, he gave us a 5 minutes drum solo. Which I'd have appreciated better if I hadn't felt that he had pushed Tom out of the stage by a drum roll before Tom had had his heart's content of saying "Danke schon" to the crowd.
Maybe making up for the one or two songs of the set where he's hidden by the iron wall?
