Live Review : Toulouse, Zénith, October 22th, 2007

This time around I knew where to look, but I still nearly missed Bill's entrance. It just seems weird that he would jump up on the TH-logo-ed square from so close to the people in the mosh pit, considering how... err... pretty insane it is down there. I know there are bodyguards, but still.

1. Ubers Ende der Welt
Since it was the first concert after the two that had been cancelled due to Bill's tracheitis, there were some worries pending on his state for this one. The first song cleared them out. His voice was loud and clear, he just pushed it a bit less than usual.
Unexpected bonus : the whole band seemed to be more rested and happier to perform than in Paris.

2. Reden
(can you tell I'm not a big fan of that song?...)
3. Ich Brech Aus
Aaaah! I love this song. Since the Eiffel Tower show, it became a favorite, it's so energetic. It was good to hear it live again (instead of Break Away, yeah I'm a bit petty sometimes, but I don't boo).
Not quite the same opening speech as in Paris, as Bill mentioned the two cancelled gigs. Not quite sure what he said, except that he was better now.
4. Spring Nicht
(by any means, remove that wind-blowing machine next time plz. Besides, don't ask yourself why your singer is catching colds with stuff like that)

5. Der Letzte Tag
I had the impression until then that Bill's voice was slightly higher and clearer than usual. He must have felt the same, because he chose to perform the chorus in its original tune, not the one re-written for his adult voice. While he can't always reach the high notes on it (at the Trabendo Session, he sang the first chorus with the high/early version, and the next ones with the adult tune).
I always had a soft spot for the "early" version since it's the first one I heard, obviously, so this simple thing achieved to make me happy that I had decided to attend two gigs of that tour instead of just one.
Happier mood, better shape, Ich Brech Aus and a high version of DLT? Totally worth the extra cost and 5h train trip. And it wasn't even over.
6. Wo Sind Eure Hände
I may be wrong, but I think the Toulouse audience paid more attention to what the title means. Georg and Tom made sure we all understood and raised our hands.
7. Durch den Monsun
It's the song where Bill can res a bit since he makes the crowd sing for half of it :) And it's always bliss to see how much it works. Hearing a huge crowd singing entire songs in German? Much better than the screaming.

The introducing speech to the next song was a little different than in Paris... I didn't pick up the details though. I definitely need to work on my German.
8. Wir Sterben Niemals Aus
Still love that song to bits. Don't know what Tom did with his guitar during it, though. It sounded weird. If he was experimenting a new sound : I liked it better the other way around plz.
9. Stich ins Glück
Still Nirvana-esque, no matter how many times I hear it.

10. Ich bin nicht ich
Odd how this one makes gets extra soul on stage.
11. Schrei
Ouch, my ears. I don't know what's the loudest : Bill's megaphone or the crowd's screams when they see it.
(not too sure about the "getting a fan on stage to make her sing/shout 'Neiiin'" routine, though. Especially if the poor girls get mobbed afterwards)
12. Vergessene Kinder
13. Leb' die Sekunde
Another time of making us sing. The crowd had good intentions, not so good sense of rhythm, arrm.

Tried very hard to listen to Bill's introduction speech, and failed. Fangirls screams don't help. I wanna know what he says about that song, dammit. Get out that Zimmer 483 live DVD already.
14. Heilig
Bill was struggling a bit at that point, at that point. *pets him*
Give them more days off in between gigs, plz. We want them in good shape.
15. Totgeliebt
I always liked this song, but I like it even more live.

Encore 16. In die Nacht
One day Bill will kick Tom a little too hard on this song, and one of them will fall off his stool, and they will both feel fairly stupid... *grin* . Acoustic songs for the win.
17. Rette Mich
I think this will remain my favorite moment / song of that concert. For two reasons : near the end, a lot of plushies were sent to the guys. I'm not keen on that (... I know they're young and their audience even more, but stuffed animals?), but it was funny when one pink teddy bear landed right in Georg's lap. Bill picked it up and rubbed in Georg's face - who didn't miss a note. I'm sure that every day, Georg must have at least one moment where he thinks "Damn, kids..." about the other guys. Well, about the twins. Gustav seems quiet on that front.
And earlier, while Bill was singing the second "Hörst du mich nicht?" bit, I don't know why but Tom started to laugh. It triggered Bill to laugh too, so much that he nearly couldn't sing the next line due to it... it was a happy moment to see them having genuine fun and being relaxed, definitely a bonus to a technically good concert.
Though as a result, Tom and Bill sort of turned their back to each other for the rest of the song, probably to avoid contaminating each other with a fit of giggles that would have made them stop the song. The show must go on.

I love my little stage pros (well, they're taller than me, but that's not the point).

18. An deiner Seite
I dun care how demagogic it is, it felt more sincere and we sang along that we would definitely be by their side, too.

Video : An Deiner Seite

As seems to be usual, Bill left first while Tom, Georg and Gustav finally dropped their instruments to play with the audience, empty the water bottles on them etc. Gustav didn't stay behind to make the crowd, though, this time.
And we didn't get a salute from all 4 guys together at the end either.
I bet their nanny was waiting for Bill backstage with a blanket and some cold medecine.

P.S. : I did try to get G&G in screencaps, but they move too fast when they're on those giant screens. Sorry.
